Rename & move

Change a table's path within a storage connection, or relocate it to another one - identity survives, the FQN changes.

Both operations copy, then re-identify: the underlying _delta_log and data files are copied to the new location, so the table keeps its stable identity (table_id) while its fully-qualified name / path changes. Refresh the FQN from list_tables afterward - the path you used in prior calls is now stale.

Use rename for in-place reorganisation within one storage connection; reserve move for crossing storage connections (e.g. dev → prod).

Heads up

destination_path is RELATIVE (e.g. europe/products) - never a URL like s3://… or abfss://…. It stays within the same storage config; to cross configs use move_table (below).

destination_config_id - the target connection's id (from list_tables / list_storage_configs).
destination_path is relative, never a URL.

Move raw objects

For a whole prefix of raw files (not a registered table):

Heads up

move_objects deregisters any Delta table at the source and re-runs discovery at the destination - paths shift, so re-check list_tables after. To relocate a table specifically, prefer move_table.
